Through its iSMART Factory concept, Mazak Corporation will demonstrate the power of the MTConnect open communications protocol at the [MC]2 MTConnect Conference taking place April 28-30 at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL.
"At [MC]2, attendees will learn how data-driven manufacturing intelligence gathered via MTConnect continues to advance Mazak's manufacturing operations along with the machine tool technology it offers customers," said a company spokesperson. The protocol is a key enabler of the company's iSMART Factory concept, as well as its SMOOTH TECHNOLOGY platform that encompasses the new Mazak MAZATROL SmoothX machine tool CNC and new version 1.3 MTConnect-specification adaptors.
"MTConnect-enabled digital manufacturing is the future, which is why Mazak supports and promotes the standard and participates in the [MC]2 event," said Brian Papke, President of Mazak Corporation. "At our Kentucky factory, we have long demonstrated a commitment to growth and technological advancement, with a critical part of that strategy being MTConnect and plant-wide connectivity, automation and optimized production flow. In turn, we also provide our customers the ability to establish their own extensive and open channels of communication for plug-and-play interconnectivity between devices, equipment and systems to improve their operational efficiency and to optimize productivity."
Mazak's iSMART Factory concept uses advanced manufacturing cells and systems together with full digital integration to achieve free-flow data sharing in terms of process control and operation monitoring. The MTConnect open communications protocol works with process support software and provides connectivity and the capability for Mazak to monitor and then harvest data from all of its different production floor machines, cells, devices and processes.
For digital manufacturing functionality, Mazak's SMOOTH TECHNOLOGY supports MTConnect, allowing the company's customers to collect data from machine tool CNCs and other manufacturing systems. SMOOTH is a complete process performance technology platform. It spans the entire part production landscape from programming and set-up to metal removal operations to automation to monitoring/data collection and transfer.
The [MC]2 Conference brings together thought leaders and industry insiders to solve problems and showcase cutting-edge solutions for the rapidly expanding world of connected manufacturing. The fourth edition of the conference, presented by AMT - The Association For Manufacturing Technology and the MTConnect Institute, will feature hands-on training, insights from speakers and networking within the community.
